Command to create a bootable CD/DVD for Ignite restore.

Hi,
We currently have Ignite C.7.1.93 on our 11.23 rx2620's and rx4640's. HP tells us that their latest 11.23 Core Install/Recover DVD's do not support C.7.1.93. We will have to downgrade to an older version of Ignite or create a bootable CD/DVD and do a two step boot to recover. WE DO NOT WANT TO UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE TO BOOT FROM TAPE ONLY. I would like to create the proper ISO file on the HP, copy it to a PC, and burn a bootable CD/DVD. The problem is that I do not know how to create the ISO file, without reading and understanding the make_media_install script. It seems that the command to create the ISO file should be fairly straight forward. Can someone give me the command to create the bootable DVD/CD on the systems that I have described?

Thanks,
Darrell

I'm not sure I followed your question correctly, but doesn't the section on building your own cd/dvd media suffice?

Re: Command to create a bootable CD/DVD for Ignite restore.

I did not explain things correctly the first time. I want a boot CD/DVD, but not a boot CD/DVD that contains the entire system. Just enough to boot so that I can switch over to the recovery tape. The directions that were in the documents suggested go on for pages and talk about Golden ????. I just want something to boot to until I can switch over to the recovery tape.

Thank you,

Darrell T

OK, so why not let ignite create a bootable recovery tape and be done with it?

Re: Command to create a bootable CD/DVD for Ignite restore.

I can't just have Ignite create a recovery tape. I need a bootable CD/DVD in between. This reovery tape may be going to a system that can't boot straight from a tape, but must do a double boot with the DVD sandwiched in between. But, I would rather not get into that right now. I just want to know how to make a simple boot DVD without all the extra's. The extras take too much time which I don't have.

Maybe, I missunderstand Ignite etc so much that I am asking the impossible. I have found no place that deals simply with a boot DVD - all of the explainations go on for page with info about Golden Archives etc.

And, yes, I could remove my current Ignite and install an old version that would work with the latest 11.23 Media set. I would rather just do the simple bootable DVD to sandwich in between the HP boot and the Ignite recover tape.

Thanks,

Re: Command to create a bootable CD/DVD for Ignite restore.

It may be that I don't understand enough about the question that I am asking to ask it properly. I had thought that there would be two types of boot CD/DVD's. One that contained the entire contents of the recovery tape plus enough info to get the system booted. The other type would be a boot CD/DVD that would just get me booted enough to let the recovery tape take over. I had thought that this second type of CD/DVD would be less complex and easier to make. I think that I was wrong in my assumption.

To deal with my problem, I am going to remove Ignite C.7.1.93 and install the Ignite version that comes on the latest HP-UX 11.23 Install/Recovery DVD - C.6.9.141. This version should be compatible with the HP-UX Install/Recovery set of DVD's that it is taken from. The new Install/Recovery Media set is expected to arrive tomorrow from HP.

Thanks,
