I just recently enabled and set up TFTP on my K570 box.
My goal is to back up my multiple cisco router configs via tftp.
When I try it from the HP as follows:
tftp 10.xxx.xxx.xxx
tftp> status
Connected to 10.xxx.xxx.xxx.
Mode: netascii Verbose: off Tracing: off
Rexmt-interval: 5 seconds, Max-timeout: 25 seconds
My status shows that I am connected, (but I just recently found out that I get the same message if this device is turned off or on. How do I know if it is actually making a connection?)
but when I type either of the following:
get config
get running-config
get start-config
I get the following message:
Transfer timed out.
Does any one know if the hp sees the files as binary not ascii? if so, what is it expecting?
I tried to tftp the other way;
I telneted into the routers and tried to do the following:
#copy run tftp
Remote host []? 10.xxx.xxx.xxx
Name of....write [tftp_test-confg?
Write file tftp_test-confg on host 10.xxx.xxx.xxx [confirm]
building configuration...
Writing ftfp_test-confg
TFTP: error code 2 received - Access violation
[Failed]
But I get this Failed error.
I am successful setting up a tftp server on NT but would rather utilize the HP for this. Has anyone out there been sucessful? or have any Ideas?
....John

Re: ?? command to tftp from Cisco routers to HP/UX 10.20
On my J-class box, I enabled tftp in /etc/services and /etc/inetd.conf and created a tftp user in /etc/passwd.
Good Luck.

Re: ?? command to tftp from Cisco routers to HP/UX 10.20
You are correct that tftp doesn't really show if is successfully connected to the host. This may be because of the udp thing.
Transer timed out means the HP is not able to talk to the Cisco through tftp. You may have to check the access permissions on the cisco router to accept requests from the HP system.
From cisco, you are getting access violations from HP for putting the files. Check the permissions on the tftp's home directory on the HP system and see if tftp account has been setup.

Re: ?? command to tftp from Cisco routers to HP/UX 10.20
This is how I backed it up to NT 2000 and NT4.0. When I did this there was no security setting on the Cisco side that I needed to set up. Did you have to set up anything to connect to the HP? If not something is wrong with the way I set up TFTP. I already changed the permission to /home/tftp to 777.
Sri,
Thank you for verifying that I cannot verify connectivity, and that the timeout means I have an access problem. I will double-check my instructions on how to set up tftp. If you have a link to a ???how to set up tftp???, can you give it to me? It may be more detailed and better the instructions I have???.
Thanks you guys, I will continue to try and get this working???.

Try this link,
http://us-support3.external.hp.com/cki/bin/doc.pl/sid=16514bde02ca310bc4/screen=ckiDisplayDocument?docId=200000024598402
This link says,
Quote //
'Error code 2: Access violation'
'Error code 1: File not found'
This error indicates a problem with permissions of a file or directory.
Verify that the file on the server exists in tftps' home directory. Check that the file is in one of the paths listed on the line for tftp in /etc/inetd.conf. Verify that the file has tftp as the owner, users as the group, and tftp has read and write permissions.
//Endquote.
Hope this helps.

Re: ?? command to tftp from Cisco routers to HP/UX 10.20
I remember reading that sometimes the TFTP transfers to Unix systems will fail if the file does not already exist. Try touching the file first and then verify that it has rw rw rw permissions.
I know there are several Perl scripts out there which will log into a router and pull the config. Just use www.google.com to search the comp.dcom.sys.cisco group for config perl script.
Attached is a simple Expect script which I found on the cisco newsgroup.

Re: ?? command to tftp from Cisco routers to HP/UX 10.20
You were write about another thing. I was able to tftp a new file from NT to the HP, but for some reason the file needed to exist on the HP for me to send it from the Cisco to the HP.... I am still checking out the scripts, because of efficiency but this workable. I can now start testing a way to restore the configs from the hp to cisco routers :)
