any body can help common desktop environment is not coming??

i added new hardware as dvd rom in hpux 11.11.
if i put ioscan itwas not detecting?
can any body can tell how i can troubleshoot.

Can you clarify you question? Are you saying you added new hardware, a CD ROM, to you system and you now have two problems.

1) you cannot see the DVD ROM with ioscan and

2) you now cannot start the common desktop environment?

When you added the DVD did you run insf?

Where are you trying to bring up DCE? Directly on the HP-UX box or using an X-windows emulator. What is in the errorlog (/.dt/errorlog). Anything in the sessionlogs /.dt/sessionlogs

Can't you login without CDE and check the logs I suggested?

For CDE issues the first thing to do is consult "the doctor" (Dr. DT or the dr_dt command)

On my 11.31 system dr_dt is located here:

/usr/contrib/bin/X11/dr_dt

It may be somewhere else on your 11.11 system.

Run dr_dt and pay attention to any ERROR messages it generates...

I hope you are using the PA system. please check the below points.

1. swlist |grep -i cde (it should list the cde-english B.11.11)
2. /etc/dt/config/Xservers

â ¢ Local local@console /usr/bin/X11/X: 0 (Remove the # from this Statement)

3. /usr/dt/config/Xconfig

# To disable R4 MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 per-user authorization.

#Dtlogin*authorize: False (Remove the # from this Statement)

4. /usr/dt/config/Xservers

â ¢ Local local@console /usr/bin/X11/X: 0 (Remove the # from this Statement)

Then try to restart the dtlogin service.
#/sbin/init.d/dtlogin.rc stop/start.

is CDE coming, when you disconnect dvd rom?
Have you checked SCSI id of the drive?
Is it unique at the system?
