Hmmmm, apparently HP has moved the URL for the server support matrix - - AGAIN!

Fortunately, I copied the matrix the last time they moved it. See attached.

No
These systems are 64 bit, and HP-UX 10.20 is 32 bit

Oops, the matrix I copied doesn't cover 10.20 - just 11i. If I recall correctly the L class was strictly an 11.0/11i machine.

According to this matrix, no.

The best you can do is a zooped up K Class machine or upgrade your OS

Re: Compatibility L2000/L3000 with HP-UX 10.20

If I remember correctly, there is a 64 bit version of 10.20. I know that those L class boxes weren't out then. So, I think it *could* work, but geez, if I was standing up a new PA-RISC box, I'd only be considering 11.11 or the new 11.23 for PA-RISC. Of course, you've probably got a reason to want to install the old OS - application compatibility I'm guessing. You know you're off the support matrix on a L-Class with 10.20, but on 10.20 on ANY box, you're off the support matrix anyway! So, if I was in your presumed "no-choices" spot and couldn't see putting up a newer OS, I'd at least give a try and see if it loads. I think you'll know pretty shortly whether or not it's going to fly. Good reason(s) why it won't load/install - driver card support in the install path or I/O bus support for the newer hardware in the 10.20 system.

Re: Compatibility L2000/L3000 with HP-UX 10.20

Hi OLIVA

L2000 and L3000 have 64bit hardware architecture and thus support only 64bit OS. Thus 10.20 being 32bit OS cannot be installed on these servers.

If you really need 10.20, source out refurbished K class box, but again there is no support form HP on 10.20.

Why not install hp-ux 11.x on these boxes. All 32 bit applications will work in 64 bit OS. Recompilation may be required for some of them.

Re: Compatibility L2000/L3000 with HP-UX 10.20

If there was a 64bit version, I never saw it...possibly some special code for a special customer. 10.30 was not 64bit either.

However, the issue is not just 64bits, it is the availability of drivers and hardware-specific code inside the install media. The last install media for 10.20 was Dec 2001, long before there was ever an L-class computer. So most of the I/O simply won't work because there are no drivers. My guess is that even if you try to install it, it will fail partway through the installation or have a panic crash as it tries to bootup.

Bill's right - I just checked out an old 10.20 install disk (July 1996) , and there's no 64 bit option on it. ... memory failing ... sigh ...
