HP at one time had a PC software that could be used to configure and boot DTCs. I think the answer is to get that software and put a PC with that software in each segment. Host based booting can't go through routers.

Once that is done then your DTC's can establish connections through standard routers.

Hmm, the product you may be thinking of is DTCManager, but it may be called something else by now ;-}

There was also a DTCManager/RX product that could be installed to manage DTC's outside the local subnet, but it meant also either buying new DTC's or upgrading some of the DTC16TN's to DTC16RX's

You may want to contact your local HP Sales office, or VAR if you use one.

Re: conexion dtc outside a LAN segment for the main server HP

Thanks Malvyn. I've one of version for DTC manager. I was talk with HP Mexico (my country sales&support) and They say me only i need is change the ip adress, mask and getway for the new place and configure the router for accepting mode "bridge" (I think this solution will increment the level traffic in the WAN). I don't wont buy new DTC's because we're in project for migracion all system in the Company (BD oracle in the end part and graphic mode in the front part). Thanks very much for you answer

Re: conexion dtc outside a LAN segment for the main server HP

Roberto,

You are correct: bridging can use up a lot of bandwidth on a WAN. If you are using Cisco routers and the issue is that udp broadcasts are not being passed through the routers: Cisco offers an IP helper-address command which solves the problem without bridging everything.

On the interface which connects to the subnet which originates the broadcast you add:
ip helper-address A.B.C.D
where A.B.C.D is the address of the server that needs to receive the broadcast.

You also may need to turn on (in global config mode on the same router)
ip forward-protocol udp xxx
where xxx is the port name that the server listens on for these broadcasts.

The router needs a route to the A.B.C.0 subnet of course and the destination server and its router need to know how to get back to the broadcast originating subnet.

Re: conexion dtc outside a LAN segment for the main server HP

Do you mean Bay Networks? They require you to load a special GUI program in order to control them. Once you get the GUI up it's all menu driven. There is a newsgroup for BayNetworks. You can ask there. comp.dcom.sys.bay-networks. If you are not familiar with newsgroups go to www.google.com and select the Group button then comp them comp.dcom then comp.dcom.sys ....

You can read and search from there but you must register to post. It's free.

A lot of Thanks Ron. I go to fill in and I will try to find information about my routers. I thank your interest and help sincerely. Greetings from Mexico
