Configuration:
rp3410 Server with single GB LAN card installed
VS80 DLT drive (HP Storageworks)
Adaptec RAID Drive - Ultra SCSI interface
This is a very lightly loaded server with minimual use. It is used to transfer data files between two networks that cannot be bridged together, this server is connected to one network at a time, the files are copied to it and then the networks are changed and the files are moved on. (I know, don't ask!) Due to this use it cannot be connected to the main tape backup server here so I really require an external tape drive on it.
As a rule of thumb I know you should always connect the tape to a dedicated SCSI port on the server, but in this case I do not have the funds to buy an additioanl interface card. So will this configuation work, even if a bit slowly during backups?

SolutionYes, it will work so long as you are careful to have the scsi id's all unique.
Tape performance will be significantly effected especially when the disk its sharing a scsi card with is in heavy use.

Re: Configuration Question
Yes it should work fine. But alongwith caring for SCSI IDs you should also look for similar interface type on DLT drive, RAID Drive and the only card of your server.
