I need to setup a Netbackup Master / Media server with the following hardware:
N4000-55 [8 cpu's/ 16 gig mem]
IBM 3584 Tape library with 4 LTO2's
(4) Tachyon XL2 A6795A fibre cards....
I use to admin HP systems about 6 yrs ago. Currently I use Solaris for Netbackup...
I need a process to get these tape drives available for use for Netbackup....
Does anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks.....

Hi Joe,
if you mean Veritas Netbackup for hpux, here it is the Installation Guide link:
http://backups.lbl.gov/backups/documentation/SysAdmin/5.1/NetBackup_Install_UNIX.pdf
http://www.mass.dk/nbu/
http://www.ipro.lv/mirror/www.netapp.com/tech_library/3229.html
And you can also go in www.itrc.com and search for Netbackup, there are a lot of useful hints.
Regards,
Alex

Re: Configure IBM LTO2 (3584) onto a HP N4000-55
I guess my main confusion is what is needed to be installed into the kernel. Does spt go in or sctl? What about schgr? Does it go in? And and the process to create the device file for robot control and lto2 drive access...
hpux = 11.11
Thanks.........

Re: Configure IBM LTO2 (3584) onto a HP N4000-55
Joe,
It has been awhile since I HP'd, but if I remember correctly, HP's generic tape drivers aren't supported by IBM tape drives.
That said, we used the the schgr (per IBM's instructions) and I believe the old stape driver for LTO-1 on a 3584 with 5158A HBA's.
Have not dealt with HP in about two years now, but I would expect that they have updated the driver to support LTO-2 to some degree. Otherwise, you will have to download the IBM tape driver and use it. This is painful, as there was not a good way to distribute it to all your servers.
As I said though, at the time HP did not recommend using the stape driver for IBM and neither did IBM, but it is still working fine for that installation almost 4 years later. And yes, they do a lot of restores too.
Hope this helps some.
