Re: Configuring a Sharp AR-MR237 printer

Simply add -n3 to the lp command. Man lp for details.

Plan B. Modify the prnter's interface file to default to 3 rather than 1 copies.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Configuring a Sharp AR-MR237 printer

You have probably set this thing up as a "Remote" (LPR/LPD protocol) rather than a "Network" (HP Port 9100 protocol) this severely limits your options to control the printer. The copies values is not passwd to the rlp command.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Configuring a Sharp AR-MR237 printer

What you need to do is add this printer as a "Network" printer using the hppi command interactively. This printer understands the JetDirect (port 9100) protocol; you will need to choose a compatible HP Laserjet Model (your printer understands PCL6 and Postscript 3) so this should be rather easy.
If you have not done so, you will need to install the JetDirect software on your HP-UX box.

http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Lookup?h_lang=en&h_cc=us&cc=us&h_page=hpcomтМй=en&h_client=S-A-R163-1&h_pagetype=s-002&h_query=JetDirect

The -ncopies argument should then work.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Configuring a Sharp AR-MR237 printer

I setup an AR-M207 using port 9100 printing and it works fine. It even can use "divpage" to do 2-up and 4-up page printing. The Sharp printer for the most part understands PCL, but some things are little different then a HPLJ printer.

For instance, in my print driver script I do a reset on the printer at the end. This unfortunatelly does not reset duplex mode.

Also portrait duplex mode prints in duplex, but the pages are printed for the narrow edge (top) page turning, where-as HPLJ printers default to long edge (left).

Re: Configuring a Sharp AR-MR237 printer

No, you don't need to do any of that. Just execute "hppi" and add the printer using the hostname you have assigned. The only area that will require a bit of experimentation is the choice of model scripts. You will choose from a list that will be presented since your Sharp printer will not be recognized as a LaserLet. I would try something like an LJ4000TN.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Configuring a Sharp AR-MR237 printer

The Sharp printer is not responding as an HP
printer; however, that does mean that it will not work. You need to answer 'y' and continue. You should also check your printer's network configuration to make sure the port 9100 protocol is enabled.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
