Configuring Exceed on my box
I had to install Exceed again and we have Exceed 7.11. I am trying to get it configured on my box, but don't know what is needed to configure this on my box.
When I try to run Xstart (Xstart client application startup) it by putting in the server IP and connect command, the application either hangs up or gives me an error message related to my HOME directory.
The Xstart program is located at \Program Files\Hummingbird\Connectivity\7.11\Exceed
What do I need to do to get this dang apps working on my box, so I can get out of using telnet?
Thanks.

Re: Configuring Exceed on my box
I did something like this:
To set up exceed for your desktop:
Start
Programs
Hummingbird Connectivity
Exceed
Client Wizard
host: hostname
host type: hp
Type: CDE Terminal
User ID:
Password:
Create Icon
Copy Icon to desktop
If you have trouble, then click:
Start
Programs
Hummingbird Connectivity
Exceed
Xconfig
Communication
Configure
hostname
HCLpcXserver
XDMCP - query
OK
If you have trouble on your desktop, look in the file (on your desktop):
If you have trouble, then click:
Start
Programs
Hummingbird Connectivity
Exceed
Xconfig
Troubleshooting
Exceed.log View
If you want to look at trouble logs on UNIX, look at:
hostname:/var/dt/Xerrors
Try some of that!

Re: Configuring Exceed on my box
Start>Programs>Hummingbird>Exceed>Xconfig
Click "Communication"
Set mode to "XDMCP-Broadcast" and click "Configure"
Display class is "HCLpcXserver"
Check "Host List File" and click on "edit"
Add any systems IP address/Name that you want to be able to access as:
Save file and exit and Click "OK" all the way out.
To start, Click under Exceed, the "Exceed (XDMCP Broadcast)" option, and you will see a Host List of the machines that either are (1) Set up to broadcase their address, or (2) have their information in the file you edited above.
Good luck!

Re: Configuring Exceed on my box
We are working on rolling out the next release but could not get 7.11 to even connect and work well with our core W2K OS.
So perhaps uninstall it, see if 7.00 or 8.x works better. The procedures above worked just fine on 7.00 but not 7.11 for us.

Re: Configuring Exceed on my box
Start "Xconfig" and choose "XDMCP-query".
Click on the "Configure..." button and enter the target servers IP in the "Connect Host:" section. I used "HCLpcXserver" in the "Display Class:" section. "Ok" everything. You should be good to go as long as CDE is installed, etc. on your target server.

Re: Configuring Exceed on my box
start method:TELNET (TCP/IP)
program type: X Window
User ID: as per your system
Password: as per your system
Host: IP address as per your system or host name if entry in hosts file on PC
Prompt: none or login info - your choice
command: @(XTerm, method=stdappdb) -display @d&@;
Description: whatever you want
Also, check 'show on client startup menu' and you can then drag the icon to the desktop as a shortcut.
I don't know what else to say - this just works for me
