Configuring Network Printer
HPUX 11iv2 (11.23) PARISC
Hi all! I am using jetdirect printer installer for unix ver E10.34 to config the network printers, many successfully. Now I have come up on 2 printers, an HP2605 and and HP CP1518 that I can't get configured. I get
!! xxx.xx.xx.xxx is NOT an acceptable name!!
Either it is NOT a network printer or this host is denied access
to it!
As I stated, I can ping them, any ideas?

Re: Configuring Network Printer
HP printers have a long history of problems with HP-UX support. Luckily, there is a small corner of HP that is providing new model scripts and updates:
http://www.hp.com/pond/modelscripts/index2.html
Download the scripts that you need. The new protocols and languages are becoming quite scattered and support appears to be limited to Windows, and even then, modern Windows (Vista, 7) only. In the future, don't even think of buying a printer for use with HP-UX until you visit the above page. There are many, many cheap printers that cannot print plain ASCII (they are dots-only devices) and therefore totally useless for HP-UX. Unfortunately, HP does not document which printers do not print plain ASCII. In general, PCL5 and lower is safe, PCL6 is a maybe and no mention of PCL is a pretty safe bet that nothing but a limited Windows versions can make it work. You can no longer assume that any printer will work.
The CP1518 is not mentioned in the above list but (without any verification from HP) you can assume that the CP1510 series script should work. Note that there are no patches for printers in HP-UX. The model scripts are supplied by the printer division at HP.
