Dear Sirs,

How various nic cards are configured in redundancy mode on a hpux 11i server ?

Thanks,

Re: Configuring NIC in rendundancy mode

Hi,
The simplest (but not very cheap) solution is Service Guard. The SW has a functionality, which moves IP between NICs of one computer.

Re: Configuring NIC in rendundancy mode

You need to have a special software like Service guard to take care of fail over situation. http://www.hp.com/go/serviceguard should provide more information on what you are looking for.

Dear Shiv,

You can also configure the NICs in agregation / load balancing /failover mode using a software

AutoPortAggregation

from HP. Check out docs.hp.com

Re: Configuring NIC in rendundancy mode

Hi Shiv

Autoport Aggregation utility can be used to team up multiple NIC. It is freely available from hp.

Re: Configuring NIC in rendundancy mode

Shiv,
APA - Auto Port Aggregation allows you to aggregate the NICs which has redundancy in a form that until the point of failure the traffic will be distributed across the network. With Serviceguard there is only one NIC active however in the event of a failure the other NIC comes into action and takes over.

Here is a link to APA
http://docs.hp.com/en/J4240-90031/ch01s08.html

and here is how NICs are configured in serviceguard

thanks

Re: Configuring NIC in rendundancy mode

Hi,

There are two ways as suggested in earlier posts. But the best will be to combine both the methods and use both simultaneously. It will give you better throughtput as well as redundancy.

Suppose one node of cluster has four similar network card. You can create two logical interfaces using two physical cards in both in load-balancing mode. These two logical interfaces can be used as primary and failover lan interfaces for cluster. You will at any point of time will be using throughput of two physical interfaces.

For redundancy you can connect one of each physical interface of the logical interface to two different switches for better reliability.
