Configuring Xterminals on a serial port
I've been asked to replace some of our networked connected telnet sessions with locally connected Xterm.
I'm looking for direction on how to configure an Xterm on a serial port.

Re: Configuring Xterminals on a serial port
It will take many minutes simply to transmit a desktop change. The performance will be awful. Anyone who has used a laptop from a hotel room and tried starting an Xwindow program like sam or swinstall will never do that again.

Re: Configuring Xterminals on a serial port
Here's the rest of the story.
We have some very long running UNIX batch jobs
that a launched fron telnet sessions. The telnet access is provided by PCs. The PCs are networked to our HPUX servers. More than occassionally the PCs will crash or the network will fail. This causes the batch jobs to fail.
So I set a dumb terminal on a serial port thus avoid the PC and network outage issue.
OPS would now like a Xterminal (an NCD thinclient) on a serial port. I only know how to configure network connected Xterminals.

Re: Configuring Xterminals on a serial port
I suspect NCD xterminals have a similar feature : see http://www.ncd.com
I've never known anyone connect an xterminal via a serial port (don't mean it can't be done though !)
SLIP or PPP maybe your way forward on this but if its an NCD xterminal I'd check the NCDware Admin guide off the above site or send the qus to NCD support for a definitive answer ?
