Confused about Ignite package to download

Bonsoir,

I have to install an itanium box with 11iv3 HPUX BOE environnement.

For some reasons I can't use itanium's DVD drive. I plan to use an HP-UX 11.11 box to do that.

I have created a depot with 11iv3 DVD on the 11.11 box. Fine.

On the 11.11 boxe, Ignite has version C.6.1.44. A bit old I guess, so I would like to install a more recent one. I find 3 packages version C.7.7.98 at HP software download site : B.11.11, B.11.23, B.11.31. Usually I download all of them without any question. But this time, due to low bandwith, I can't. So I have to make a choice

I suppose I have to download Ignite B.11.11. But could someone confirm that, If I install this version on the 11.11 box, I will be able to Ignite the Itanium box with the 11iv3 depot I have built ?

Thanks in advance

Regards

Eric

Re: Confused about Ignite package to download

If you want to install 11.31 from 11.11, download the 11.31 version.

Getting all 3 is best bet, but that is about twice the download size.

Sure scott ???

Anyway, just got an idea. May be I can Install from the depot itself though it is a 11.31 depot ?

I do a test ...

"For some reasons I can't use itanium's DVD drive."

No drive on any other server?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Confused about Ignite package to download

Yes, you can get the DVD contents from the 11.11 machine, swcopy them into a full depot, and Ignite can point to the remote depot.

Re: Confused about Ignite package to download

Bonsoir Torsten,

In fact I tried to install from dvd. But the installer doesn't recognize the 2nd DVD :-(

I know this DVD is good to make a software depot and install through an ignite server. I used it this way before. I never used it through a boot on DVD drive.

The problem is that I sent those DVD to the site (600 kms) where I have to make the install. I have no time enough to send a new set of DVD because I must do the install ... tonight and I do it in a remote way :-( I connect to this site trough a VPN but, as said, bandwith is quite low ... Enough for terminal emulation, not for ftp transfert ...

Great news, it seems that installation from 11.31 depot works. I am to do a test now ...

Shalom Eric,

Probably a bad DVD drive or bad media.

For this install to work you need a at least two depots, the most important of which is the Ignite client (enabler) for 11.31

Re: Confused about Ignite package to download

Sorry Torsten, I did not answered your question "No drive on any other server?" --> I guess there is a problem on the 2nd DVD itself. Never tested it with an install from DVD drive. I just know it is good to build a depot. That's why I choosed this way

Re: Confused about Ignite package to download

Ok, Eric.

Have a look at this too:

http://docs.hp.com/en/IUX/faq.html#9-4

I guess the 11.31 bundle is enough.

(I always used all bundles, so I never bother about ...)

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Oups, Torsten, submitting points too rapidly. Chapters 9.4 and 9.5 are very interesting. So post something so that I can give you also the max points.

Re: Confused about Ignite package to download

Great it works.

In a summary you can install Ignite software from an 11iv3 OE depot to a 11.11 box !

And finally Torsten as pointed a documentation that confirms Scot 1st post. So 10 points for both.

For other answers :

Scot, I wanted to say "may be I can install IGNITE TO THE 11.11 BOX from the 11.31 depot itself though it is a 11.31 depot ? Sorry, my poor english again :-(

Steven, this DVD is not so bad : I can build a depot with it. I don't know the installer recognize that a dvd is the good one ? Through a special file outside cd fs, plain text in a regular file ? May be there is a bug in September 2008 HP-UX DCOE distrib ?

Torsten "I always used all bundles, so I never bother about ..." Yes in other words we are lazy guys. And one day, we have to pay for that ;-)

Thanks every body.
I will close this thread as soon as Torsten will post something to get its points.

See U in an other thread.
