Connect a usb printer to a hp5000 console?

Can anyone tell me what I would need to do to connect a HP LJ1020 (with usb port only) to our HP 5000 console that is connected to our rp4400 uisng hp-ux? I see 2 set up options, lpd control & rpd printers which both only show settings available for lpt1 & com1 & com2.
I need this printer attached directly for when I install patches, changes to the kernel, etc.
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I am new to this one and this system seems to have only a basic setup. I also need to know how to get the gui version of the sam utilites installed. Right now all I have available is the terminal versiom of sam.

TIA!

Shalom,

Not a dumb question.

I do not believe that device is capable of using a usb printer.

You already have the gui versions of sam installed; what you appear to lack is an X terminal (or an X emulation package running on a PC). You need to install something like Reflection X or eXceed on your PC.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

You need to get a JetDirect USB network adapter, specifically the 175x. Plug it into the network and plug the printer into the USB port. Then use hppi on HP-UX to configure the printer.

All the GUI versions for SAM and swinstall are always present. You have to add Xwindow support to your PC (free to hundreds of dollars). Both SAM and swinstall (actaully, all the SD utilities) have a GUI interface that starts whenever the DISPLAY variable has been set.
