Connections going out work but nothing will come in (including ping)
We are developing new server (11.23) and were able to access the server via telnet, rlogin, etc with no problems. We loaded up the application disk and now we can telnet, rlogin, etc OUT of the box but cannot get in. Even pinging the box does not work (ping another machine FROM the server works fine). The server is on a separate IP scheme, but connections and ping were working fine before loading the disk. Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: Connections going out work but nothing will come in (including ping)
Hi,
I take it that you can coonect via the console/MP Lan ?
Can you connect via ssh ?
Is the the inetd deamon up and running ?
Are there any messages in the syslog ?
Have you tried accessing the console/MP Lan and investigating what the issue may be ?
Regards,
Mark

Administrating HP-UX systems for more years than I care to admit, but still enjoying it (most of the time!).

Re: Connections going out work but nothing will come in (including ping)
It was bastille that got us. It was installed with the application disk inadvertantly and locked everything down cold. Running a "bastille -r" reverted us back to where we started from.
So mental note....just installing bastille will harden your system to a cold heap of metal. If you install it, be prepared to configure it.
