console fubar'd
I have a console connected to an T520 running 11.0. Console has been working fine but all of a sudden it will not come back after a reboot.
I have checked all the hardware, replaced console with one I know works, checked settings, file permissions, getty, inittab, etc.
The strange thing is when I reboot (remotely) the start up messages display fine on this console, comes up with initial login and then stops, can't login and if I hit enter no new login screen comes up. I can cat to /dev/console no problem and file reflects new date and output comes to the console.
Any ideas???

Re: console fubar'd
Have you replaced the CABLE?? Sounds like the "send" isn't getting there. It could be a bad console port, but the first thing I'd do is replace the cable. (Bent pin or broken wire maybe?)

Re: console fubar'd
Are you using "shutdown -yr" to reboot?

Re: console fubar'd
It is just because transmit (send) signal (+12v) is not going from your terminal to the server.
Possible cause should be,
1)Open cable.
2)Console port problem (If it is not ready to receive the send signal of terminal)
3)Bent pin.
