what is it?

Last time I saw this error, it was due to a bad cable.

a) Bad Cable
b) Port fault on Hub/Switch
c) Faulty Hub/Switch
You can pin point the fault by checking other systems connected to the same Hub/Switch. If all systems are getting above message,most probably Switch issue. Switch reboot may also cause this message.

Do you've STM installed on your server?
Check with STM if you can get more info, also if STM is installed you should see messages in your syslog.log file.
Does dmesg give you any messages?
