Console not responding

HP-UX 11.0 console is not responding. There is simply a blinking cursor. Any ideas on what could fix it? I can log in by telneting but not from teh console and the console isn't logged in.

Thanks

Re: Console not responding

Can you ctrl+b to get into GSP? That will tell you that you at least have connectivity.

If not, check to make sure the console is plugged into the plug named "console" in the back of the server.

Re: Console not responding

Hi,

You could try resetting the console to its default settings:

F10 -> F8
Print Scrn
Select "Default Terminal"
Enter
Esc
Y

If that doesn't work, you might try killing the 'getty console' process and letting it respawn.

Still no joy with any of those. It is displaying messages from the database, so it's connected. Ctrl B works as well, but when exit just leaves w/ a blinking cursor and inability to do anything.

Re: Console not responding

You have no shell or the shell is waiting some process that is not responding. Try this command from a regular session:

ps -f -t console

If you do not see at least /usr/sbin/getty then inittab has not respawned a getty for the conmsole. If you see other processes, these are likely the ones causing the apparent hang so the terminal does not seem to work. The console is working (right cable, right baud rate, etc) bhecause you can get a GSP prompt. So it is a process (or lack of a getty) that is causing this hang.

Re: Console not responding

Can you check your terminal settings at the local console? What kind of console do you have?

Re: Console not responding

Hi Radhe,

Can you try to do a "control reset" key combo? I know this my sound stupid but is the "remote" key on.
