Copy Multiple Directories via FTP?

Hi all,

I know how to copy multiple files via FTP from one UNIX machine to another.

Does anyone know if FTP supports the copying of multiple directories (incl. all the files in each directory!).
Any help would be much appreciated.

Alternate suggestion.

rcp -r

or better

scp -r
