We have 3 Scsi HDD on that machine and when i used to boot the Copy Util CD using ISL and without ISL and when gave the command it detetcts only the Tape and the CD-Rom drive and no other Media.

Obvi without which i can not give the command to dump the images of the respective drives to tape.

Has anybody faced the problem and how to get over this problem.

Re: Copy Util Problem

This isn't directly related, but why not use make_recovery (now called make_tape_recovery) utility instead. Its part of Ignite-UX freely available from HP. It much more flexible than copyutil.

Re: Copy Util Problem

Have you tried using the dump command? This is a good tool to copy images, it looks like this

dd if=infile of=outfile

you can just put the device file names in here

ex:
dd if=/dev/dsk/c1t0d1 of=/dev/rdsk/c0t1d1

or whatever your device names are. When using a hard disk, make sure you use the raw device, it goes much faster

Re: Copy Util Problem

Hi
If your aim is to prepare an emergency disk, you may consider the Ignite-Ux approach, using make_tape_recovery. Ignite also helps in deployment on multiple servers.

Thanks
Prashant.
Take it as it comes.

Re: Copy Util Problem

copyutil was not intended for the use you are trying to put it to.
It is also probably too old to have the knowledge of your newer drives/interfaces, and thus will not show these discs.
The free Ignite/UX utililty available at http://www.software.hp.com is the recommended way to go.
