Could stm cause a track ball/mouse problem?
HP-UX 10.20, series 700, Dec 99 (IPR 9912) release
of Support Plus.
I was wondering if anyone was familiar with a possible problem with stm affecting a trackball
or possibly its firmware. When running software
that runs stm, the following observations have been
made:
"The cursor all of a sudden just jammed on the right hand side of the screen. Could not recover the trackball through crtl-shift-r. Had to reboot to recover."
"The moment the software running stm the mouse became unuseable. The mouse hung to the right side; any movement of the track ball caused the option menu to appear. Had to reboot the machine from a remote login."
It seems that when stm runs and the operator
moves the cursor via the trackball, the cursor
moves to the right of the screen and is "stuck" there. The only action to resolve it is a reboot.
Some have said that just the slightest movement
of the trackball causes it.
Our hardware engineers have looked at this issue
for the past few months but the problem persists.
And, it shows up on different workstations.
Any ideas?
thanks,
Boy

Re: Could stm cause a track ball/mouse problem?
Try stopping diagnostic
/sbin/init.d/diagnostic stop
The answer is probably yes!
I say probably because I have another strange device that stm does disturb by doing routing diagnostics now and again.. my only soln is to stop diagnostics.
Later,
Bill

Re: Could stm cause a track ball/mouse problem?
Stopping diagnostic unfortunately is not an option for us since the software also
starts up and runs diagnostic. The software is to perform some diagnostic tests of the hardware.
Perhaps the problem is with /sbin/init.d/diagnostic.
Any other ideas? Anyone?

Boyd
