CPU Failure
Hi,
Does anyone know if a CPU fails in a K-Class does this stop the server from
working.
What is the likely impact of such an event?
Is this the same for all 9000 servers?
Thanks, Paul

Re: CPU Failure
Hi
When cpu fails on 9000 systems the box can crash. Upon
comming back up the system will automatically offline the failed cpu.

Re: CPU Failure
CPU failure generally does cause total system failure. If you have multiple
CPUs, however, you can disable the CPU that has failed and bring the system up
without it until you can get a replacement.
As far as the chance of losing a CPU? In 3 years I've had two CPU's on one
K-class box fail, but in both cases there was a service note about faulty cache
on the batch that those CPU's came from. We have 5 K-class boxes with 13 CPU's
between them and except for the above hiccup, no problems at all.

Re: CPU Failure
If the CPU that fails is in slot 1 or the monarch,
I don't think the server will come back up.
