CPU RunQsize problem

Hi,

I am frequently getting cpu runque size alerts and it reached to 10 to 15 when I checked by sar -q .

Experts, can you tell me what are the reasons of cause and how to resolve it.

Re: CPU RunQsize problem

What is the alert that you get? The Run queue is the queue of 'ready-to-run' processes. If the number is high, it means many processes are available to be run by the CPU. May be your workload demands more CPUs.

Thanks for quick response. It gives warning

CPU RunQsize exceeded. It reached to above 10.00 numbers .I thinks it should not be more than 5 .

Re: CPU RunQsize problem

runq-sz refer Average length of the run queue(s) of processes (in memory and runnable), with 10 to 15, it may not give us any indication CPU utilization is busy or not.

My advise, using Glance tool will help
some guideline
Numbers to notice
â ¢ CPU utilization > 80%
â ¢ System CPU > 20%
â ¢ Processor load unbalanced
â ¢ Load Average > 5
â ¢ Disk %busy > 60%
â ¢ Disk queueing > 5
â ¢ Disk wait/service times > 20ms
â ¢ Disks unbalanced
â ¢ Pageouts / Deactivations > 0

Re: CPU RunQsize problem

Ya I will not forget to give point.

CPU utilization is not much i.e around 30 to 40% utilize but I am getting RunQ error every alternet day so I have to resolve it .
