CPU Version

Hi All,

We are doing hardware inventory of the HP servers. While checking CPU version on 9000/800/L2000-44 model, I found difference between sam output and /var/tombstones/ts99 details. Sam shows CPU version as PA 8500 Module 2.0 whereas /var/tombstones/ts99 shows as PA 8600 CPU Module 3.0. I checked previous /var/tombstones/ts?? files and found that upto ts73, it was also showing PA 8500..., but from ts74, it is showing PA 8600...
Also, echo "scl type Processor;info;wait;infolog" | /usr/sbin/cstm|grep PA output shows PA 8600...
But when I check CPU speed with # echo "itick_per_usec/D"|adb -k /stand/vmunix /dev/mem|tail -1, it shows 440Mhz which relates to PA 8500...
Please help me in collecting the correct CPU details.
Thanks in advance.
-Siddhesh.

Re: CPU Version

Shalom,

You may have this, but this document has a section on CPU infromation.

The L2000 as far as I remember was a PA 8700 or 8800.

Re: CPU Version

siddhesh,

Ive seen both pa8500 and 8600 in the 440mhz cpu's.

I was told that Hp basically ran out of the 8500's and started to use 8600's and set them to 440mhz.

I had servers run fine with both in together aswell. these usually have a different C version number aswell at PDC.

you can check with
#pdcinfo

Is it possible that you have upgraded the diagnostics bundle since the TS73 and now it reports the processor correctly?

Re: CPU Version

Thanks for the prompt responses.

Andy,

I am not sure whether I can run pdcinfo on this system. And also not aware of the upgrades. But I could find following difference in ts73 and ts74
# grep Processor ts73
----------------- Processor 0 HPMC Information ------------------
----------------- Processor 3 HPMC Information ------------------
# grep Processor ts74
----------------- Processor 0 HPMC Information - PDC Version: 41.39 ------
----------------- Processor 3 HPMC Information - PDC Version: 41.39 ------

I wonder if actual CPU is PA 8600, why SAM shows it as PA 8500. Is it because it is hardcoded as follows:
# grep `model|awk -F / '{print $3}'` /usr/sam/lib/mo/sched.models
L2000-44 2.0 PA8500

Re: CPU Version

hi again,

Im pretty sure you've got the answer there.

I'm sure that you do infact have a pa8600 processor installed. If you cannot run pdcinfo, then the infolog tool in STM should tell you.

And sam does just pull the models from the models file you have, so thats why. There may be a patch to update this but not sure.

Also you must have an upgrade to 41.39 firmware at ts73 time, as this is when it changes.

this is still quite old and should be updated really to 44.28 now, available here

read the release notes and you will see that there are many fixes for the processor discrepancies aswell.

Re: CPU Version

Do you have sysinfo installed?

It's in this thread:

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=997305

I have a couple of L classes - both are 8600's....

And:

$ grep `model|awk -F / '{print $3}'` /usr/sam/lib/mo/sched.models
L1000-5X 2.0 PA8600

It could be your file - and the version of O/S - I'm 11.23

Re: CPU Version

geoff,

your l class is a 550mhz one and all the 550mhz processors are pa8600 ones.

thats why you get -55 pa8600 from the models file
