Create a vpar on an empty partition

I have a rx8640 that I have inherited from the previous admin.
It has two patitions, partition0 and partition1.
On partition 1 there is one vpar running hpux11.23. Onpartition0 all there seems to be running is mon. I cant seem to be able to create a vpar on partition 0.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Re: Create a vpar on an empty partition

So run these reports from both nPars and paste them in:

vparstatus -v
vparstatus -A
olrad -q

MON> is your prompt. Its your partition monitor.

See attached for doc on vPars.

Actually, the doc I wanted to attach is too big. So here's another. Try searching on this title: "..Installing and Managing HP-UX Virtual Partitions (vPars)...".

Re: Create a vpar on an empty partition

From the MON prompt try to toggle the console to the vpars (if they are running) using CTRL a.

run

MON> vparinfo

to get more information.

Hope this helps!

Re: Create a vpar on an empty partition

From the mon I did a vparinfo vpar0.
It resturned the info attached. So i ran vparload -p vpar0 -B Alt
and it returned.

Re: Create a vpar on an empty partition

One npar has running vPars, the other has not, right?

From the running nPar you cannot "look into" the other npar.

I would reset the "non-running" nPar and boot /stand/vmunix instead of /stand/vpmon first (non-vpar mode) to get the current config of this vpar environment.

Hope this helps!

Re: Create a vpar on an empty partition

I reset the partition0.
I saw that thee were 2 vpars at one time, vpar0 and vpar2.
Both vpars have boot disk not listed.
both vpars have Alt disk listed.
I tried vparload -p "name" -B "alt path", for both I get.
Error loading partition. ret val 30

Re: Create a vpar on an empty partition

Try to boot in non-vpars mode (single user mode?) before remove/reset anything ...

Hope this helps!

Re: Create a vpar on an empty partition

I booted to vpmon, tried to change the io on the vpars to no avail.

Can I delete and recreate the vpars from the mon?

Many thanks
