Re: cstm

Are diagnostics running?

# ps -ef |grep diag

should return lines for diagmond and diaglogd. If those are not present then try starting diagnostics.

# /sbin/init.d/diagnostic start

Re: cstm

both /usr/sbin/stm/uut/bin/sys/diagmond & diaglogd are already running .

Re: cstm

You may need to stop and restart all the processes.

/sbin/init.d/diagnostic stop
/sbin/init.d/diagnostic start

also, if you changed any network settings, you will have to recycle the system for stm to work propoerly

Re: cstm

The last network change was to have APA configuration ( although the IP did not change ). However, the server has been started alteast thrice after that but I am still having problems with cstm .

I did stop & start /sbin/init.d/diagnostic again but to no avail .

Re: cstm

After you restarted the diagnostics, did you look in the syslog for errors?

Re: cstm

syslog doesn't report any errors

Re: cstm

when you are in cstm
issue the map command

cstm> map

Determine the device you want info on and select it with the leading number in the map list(you can select multiples if you want

cstm> sel dev 1

query the device

cstm> info

show the results of the query

cstm> infolog

Re: cstm

I do "map" and then do "sel dev 1" and that's where I am running into the problem of

Re: cstm

Are there any entries on the map that say Information Successful?

If so, select that device and try an info command

Re: cstm

Yes, "info" runs OK for the devices against which it shows " Information Successful ".

My problem is it does not show " Information Successful " for all the devices, particularly "system" ( i.e., dev 1 )

Found the following thread

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=226308

It suggests installing the latest version of stm and or using the graphical version (xstm)

Re: cstm

Sorry for the late response, I've been away.

If you haven't got this resolved, first of all, I would recommend ensuring you have recent version installed (although the thread referred to just above is unconnected with any problem you may be having).

Then, in cstm, try the 'uial' and 'sal' commands, and see if the log files show any relevant messages, particularly starting when the problem did.

In cstm, run the 'map' command, and paste the first few lines here.

Re: cstm

What version of the OnlineDiags do you have installed? This is displayed when you start cstm.

The first release to support the rx8640 was C.51.00. If you have an earlier release, you will see what you're seeing now, as the release string is not recognised. This has been seen before, particularly if the system was upgraded from an rx8620, but the OnlineDiags are still an old version. The upgrade to the latest version may require a reboot, as I think it has a dependency on a kernel patch which would require a reboot if it's not already installed.

The other possibility is that the version string is not set correctly; there should be spaces in the string. What you've shown above doesn't have spaces; if that is really what is set on the system, then it needs to be set by an HP HW engineer. The output of the 'model' command should show:

(ia64 hp server rx8640) ia64 hp server rx8640

Re: cstm

Thanks for all the details. The version that I am currently running is C.46.20 .

The model command does show

( ia64 hp server rx8640 )

I will upgrade the same .

Thanks

Re: cstm

Hi Ashish,

i have faced the same prob before. i used mstm to get info. run mstm on console as you have use "Function keys". In mstm select the device , go to Tools in menu bar ,select "Information" & select " run" that should make it enabled. after that u can use cstm.

regds,
nishith.

Re: cstm

Hi Ashish,
Yes, if you are running C.46.20 that would explain what you're seeing. Upgrade to C.51.00 or later and you should be fine.
