CVS revision management software tools on hpux

Is CVS revision management software tools comes along with operating system software on hpux ?

Is it possible to manage system config files also using this software tools ?

Can anyone shed some light on this ?

Our IT direction has choosen (where installed) to pay rather than using open source (no comment...) on a L class I have pvcs (Merant)

My prior employer also went with Merant. They have a product which my old management did not buy that lets you actually check in and out products on the Unix server via a web interface.

Its very slick, and with support, it might make management feel better. Open source can spook management that is used to support contracts and such.

Before cvs and merant, we had a system that used a rdbms to store information about what was where and scp/ssh commands to get stuff into production, compile it and archive a few prior versions. That worked pretty well too, though I had to maintain the back end code, which was written in Software AG Natural.

If the job is small, you can do it yourself.
