Re: Daily activities of a system administrator
Have a look at this similar posting from late last year. There are a number of opinions and hints.

Re: Daily activities of a system administrator
In my opinion ,
1) Regularly Monitoring and capturing system log files.
2) Regularly Monitoring and capturing data of server CPU , memory usage
3) Regularly monitoring Filesytems space.
4) Regularly monitoring capturing Network usage.
5) Writing automated scripts to handle routine user and sysadmin tasks.
6) Users Management and Support
7) Taking backup of Important filesystems.
8) Maitaining documentation for system paramters and disk layout.
9) updating with new technologies
10) Educating and training users and subordinates if applicable.

When looking at your point assignments you only assigned points to 3 questions out of 50. Doesn't look like appr.

Re: Daily activities of a system administrator
1) Check for the front pannel LED indication such as attention , if it is blinking log on to the GSP and check for the logs using "sl"
2)then you can check the "dmesg" which shows diagnostic messages , any error message will be shown in the output.
3)check the /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log file
4)check the filesystems utilization using "bdf"
5)to monitor the server you can install glance plus (it is software need to be purchased from the Hp) & you can use "gpm" on the CDE environment . it will give you the servers CPU, disk, memory utilizations
6)you can use the "top" or "sar" in between time , if you dont have the glance plus software

Install and configure EMS (Event Monitoring Services).
This services will perfom a lot of tasks automatically and warn you if problems occur .

Re: Daily activities of a system administrator
Cleaning up after users is the main task, checking print spools, tmp files, core files, and resetting passwords for those forgetful folks. Unless your users are different from mine, as that is what I do every morning.
