stape and tape2 are already configured in the kernel. Are there any other drivers I should be aware of, or patches that should be included.

SolutionFew things....
1) Check the SCSI ID on the back of the slot in that enclosure & make sure there's no conflict with any other device on that bus.
2) Make sure it's also terminated back there.
3) I've had a couple of 5300 that had a bad slot - try another slot.
