Hi,
I am installing a DAT40e tape drive into RP2430 and I hit an error "cannot open device" when "tar". The following is my config:
1. C5678B DAT40e Tape Drive
2. RP2430 Embedded Ultra-2 SCSI interface
3. C2362B 2.5m VHDTS68/HDTS68 M/M Multimode SCSI Cable
4. C2364A (P/N: 5183-2657) LVD/SE HDTS68 Multimode SCSI Terminator
5. OS is: HP-UX 11.00
Question:
1. Should I use C2370A(P/N: 5021-1121) LVD/SE VHDTS68 SCSI Terminator instead?
2. DAT40e supports on HP-UX 11i, how about HP-UX 11.00? Please see: http://www.hp.com/products1/storage/compatibility/tapebackup/software/index.html
3. Any patch required for this DAT40e (i.e. DDS-4) Tape Drive.
When I connect this DAT40e into another A500 server, intermittent backup failure occurs as well using "fbackup" in SAM. Please advise.
Regards,
Ronald

Solution
I would try it without a terminator - we dont bother with terminators on any external tape drives - SDLT, Ultrium, DDS, and they all work fine. One less thing to worry about.
You always should use the latest fbackup and scsi passthrough drivers;
PHCO_28998
PHKL_28217

Re: DAT40e installation problem on RP2430 (running HP-UX 11.00)
Hi Stefan,
I tried to take out the terminator but problem persists. Also, I will install:
PHCO_29197 s700_800 11.00 cumulative fbackup(1M)/frecover(1M) patch
PHKL_28216 s700_800 11.00 SCSI Tape (stape) cumulative
But I really want to know if DAT40e supports on HP-UX 11.00 as two servers (A400 and RP2430) got the same problem. Please reply
