Data Center Shifting

Data Center Shifting

We are using SAP R/3 (4.7E) on HP-UX and Oracle 9i. The primary site is operating from location-A and its DR is operating from location-B.

Both the sites are 1300 km apart. We are augmenting compute power from HP and matching Location-B to that of Location-A.

There are 3 systems in SAP R/3 landscape. DEV-QAS-PRD. PRD has 5 addition application servers. Database at Location-B is working on standby mode and archive logs generated at Location-A are shipped using high-speed link and these logs are applied perodically using cron scripts.

There are 3 landscapes (Non-Hr, Hr, BW) and many intra and inter interface with SAP and non-SAP applications.

The VLAN at both the locations are different. One server can be part of multiple VLAN.

Now we would like to switch the role i.e. we would like to make Location-B as primary for various reasons and eventually shift existing primary Location-A to Location-C (In Future we will make Location-C as primary and Location-B again DR).

I am sure many of your must have done similar project.

I would like you to share your experience for carrying out such large movements of application from Location-A to Location-B in terms of doc/ppt/pdf.

Your expereinces/approach papers will really be useful.

Re: Data Center Shifting

Consider oracle parellel server.

It can let you replicate data hot, through your data pipe so it really doesn't matter which site is primary.

If you really like run, you could set up a ServiceGuard continental cluster and never again will any user care which site is primary.

The networking complications are high and someone else is going to have to guide you on that issue.

Re: Data Center Shifting

Your inputs are very vital. We can't deploy the new solutions at this stage such as OPS. We have continental cluster (CNT) which are used to replicate/compress data from XP512(Location-A) to XP1024 (Location-B).

We need to move with this constraints.

Hi Sanjay,

I had a PDF file which explains data center shifting and i lost it somewhere :-(. You can find this thread useful

Re: Data Center Shifting

We are not building new Location-B from scratch. It is already function as DR for SAP systems. Now we would like to make it primary.
