DDS4 Tape Drive
I have an HP C5683A DAT drive that I am trying to install on an HP K580 server running HP-UX 10.20. After I installed it the system recognized it and built the device files for it but I cannot access the drive. For instance when I use Tar I get cannot open device. Is this device compatible with my system or do I need to do something differently? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: DDS4 Tape Drive
look at the comand output of
"ioscan -fnC tape"
See that your tape device state is "claimed".
to get the exact device name associated with it

Re: DDS4 Tape Drive
Hi,
Just do following to ensure that the required driver for your tape device has been configured in your kernel.
#cat /stand/system | grep stape
If you are not getting any output, then configure "stape" driver in your kernel , or simply manuallly configure the kernel and add entry at the bottom of new system file and complile the kernel.
Your problem will be resolved.
For doing this process you need to reboot your system.
