Dead Key, where did it go?
I have setup my 11i machine and other windows based machines hanging off of a PS2/USB KVM switch. It is very compact and convenient solution. However I find myself missing the | and \ keys only HPUX machine. These 2 characters are tuff to live without and I am wondering if there is a keyboard mapping issue and if anyone else has run into it? Can anyone help?

Re: Dead Key, where did it go?
Does the keyboard work directly attached to your HP box? If it doesn't then you need to look for other solutions. If it does work directly attached then it's the KVM switch.
And because it's directly attached, it doesn't sound like a keyboard mapping issue, unless you are running X, DT, or CDE.

Re: Dead Key, where did it go?
Hello Scott,
try this one
xkeycaps-2.46
Graphically displays and edits the keyboard mapping. Full support for HP keyboards (both workstation and X terminal) is provided and keypress events can be simulated with mouse clicks. An xmodmap-format file can be written out once the mappings have been modified.

Hope it helps.
Robert-Jan.

Re: Dead Key, where did it go?
Here is a note I cached away a couple of years ago. The cure depends on which KVM switch you are using. If you have a different brand of switch you should look for scancode in the documentation or at the vendor's site. You could try a google search with the KVM switch name and 'scancode'.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
|I have a Cybex Switchview KVM switch that I am trying to use with my
|Visualize B2000. This KVM switch uses PS/2 ports, but the B2000 is
|strictly USB for keyboard and mouse. So, I have put into place a Belkin
|PS/2 -> USB converter. Everything seems to work fine except the |key. Trying to use Unix without a | key is annoying to say the least.
|The \ key will not even function at the ISL prompt.
Here is a fix for the Belkin convertor. I snagged this from an FAQ.
I haven't got a Belkin F5U119 to try this on myself. I suspect it
changes the keyboard between PS2 scancode set 2 and scancode set 3.
Q. Y-Mouse/F5U119: Why doesn't the " | \ " (pipe/backslash) key work?
A. This apparently is a side effect of localized keyboard support, and
affects all Unix systems. There is a keystroke fix. From a Unix
shell command prompt in the ITE (and not in an xterm/hpterm terminal
window - you need to shut down the CDE/VUE user interface):
$ cat > /dev/null
Press the [Esc] key, and while holding it down
Press and release the [I] key
Release the [Esc] key.
Press and hold the [Ctrl] key, and while holding it down
Press and release the [D] Key.
Disconnect the Y-Mouse for three minutes, then re-connect it. This
re-programs the firmware of the Y-Mouse.
