what is meant by decommissiong of the server
i need to decommission the HP N class server , which was running in the 11.11
for valuable answers points assured ....

If you are concern about the data on disks consider to pull and destroy them.

At a basic level, you should do an OS install, including all disks to insure any sensitive data is removed.
This would not stop a security agency like the NSA from reconstructing the data, but would stop the casual from viewing it.
I used to work at NDS, and we send disks to the disk crusher to be sure no sensitive data was released.

Like Pete said, you really need to define your environment along with the sensitivity/confidentiality of the server's data repository.
Aside from the server itself, you may want/need to cleanup DNS entries on DNS servers; backup jobs on backup servers; etc.
You need to _think_ how your server was used and how it interpolated into _your_ environment
