Deleting entire data on UNIX WS under HP-UX 10.20/11.00

Hi Folks,
sad but true we want to get rid of our UNIX-Workstations. Therefore I have to delete all data incl. operating system. Has anyone a good idea how to do this job? Does rm -r * under root do this job? Or formatting the disk (I do not know the command fpr that task though)? Any idea ia appreciated, thanks in advance!

rm -r /etc/*
cat /stand/vmunix >/dev/rdsk/cxtxdx
cat /stand/vmunix > " " -> disk 2

Once you have deleted all the data and deleted all the VGs, consider using the mediainit command. Dependingon the size of the disk, it could take some time to complete. Refer to the mediainit(1) man page for more information.

And to do the OS VG, you would need to boot on recovery CD, load the mediainit command and proceed.

I have never done it so good luck.

Marc,

You don't mention what you intend to do with the workstations nor anything about your requirements for security. If you intend to sell or give these machines to someone, I would caution against using mediainit - it can cause future problems with the drive. If you're looking to prevent anyone from recovering data, then the dd command Massimo pointed out will work just fine. If someone else is going to become the proud owner of the machines, you could load a fresh install of the O/S onto each - the new owner is entitled. Though I'm not familiar with the details of the licensing, I know they're entitled by ownership of the machine, so you can just clear any of your data, reload the O/S and kiss the workstation goodbye!
