Dell Powervault 110T DLT Drive VS80 on HP-UX

Hi There

We have one of the above, but when we attach it to our play box (d230), it appears, but we cannot use it as no matter what we do, it keeps on telling us it is unclaimed.

Is there any drivers required as there are none on Dells website. Or is there something I must do first.

On doing an ioscan, it appears as a BNCHMARKDLT1, but we still cannot claim the device

Cheers

Dave

I am nearly certain that this device is not supported on HP-UX. If you want it to work, you'll need drivers from Dell. I've checked and can't find any.

You can call Dell support and ask, but I think they have a fundamental problem with supporting that device in HP-UX.

Re: Dell Powervault 110T DLT Drive VS80 on HP-UX

The fundamental problem is that your device is LVD SCSI and you are trying to use it on the SE-SCSI interface. LVD and SE SCSI are compatible but all DLT's on D-boxes are expected to be HVD SCSI devices. HVD SCSI will not work with your drive. That's the only SCSI architecture available on a D-box that is fast enough to feed a DLT and make it stream. Make sure that the "stape" driver is "In" the kernel; if not, mark the driver as "In" and build a new kernel.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Thanks for that Clay.

The drive is supported by UX, but we had not installed the drive when the Kernel was originally built. Rebuilding the Kernel soled the problem and picked it up first time.

Thanks again
