Re: Description of SAM and ioscan

Hi Elizangela,

For SAM to see proper port count you probably need the latest SAM cumulative 10.2 patch - PHCO_22268 - available here:

http://www1.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/patchDetail.do?BC=patch.breadcrumb.search|&patchid=PHCO_22268&context=hpux:800:10:20

As to the "cannot open" error, does ioscan output show those devices as "CLAIMED"?
Also check the perms on the devices - should be 666 bin/bin.

Re: Description of SAM and ioscan

I know this is basic but do you have the proper patches loaded for that card and your OS? It could be possible you loaded the wrong version...

Can you actually see the card in an ioscan?

If you have the proper driver and you can see it in ioscan... do you have new devices in /dev/* with today's date?

If you cant see new devices created with insf, then you might have to make sure it is seated properly...

Re: Description of SAM and ioscan

Hi,

You probably need a system handle tied to your ITRC account to access the doc - here it is cut/pasted.

Problem Description

I'm trying to add a J2094A mux card and the system won't recognize the
card. Why?

Configuration Info

Operating System - HP-UX
Version -10.01
Hardware System -K200

Solution

Early revisions of the J2092A, J2093A and J2094A
sixteen channel multiplexers and J2096A 32-channel multiplexers will
not function in the new HP 9000 K-Class systems (HP 9000 K100, K200, K400).

From date code 3426, all J2092A, J2093A and J2094A sixteen channel
multiplexers and exchange units (J2092-69001, J2093-69001 and J2094-69001)
have been modified, and will function correctly in these new Systems.
For the J2096A, 32-channel multiplexer and exchange unit (J2096-69001)
the date code is 3342.

When these early revisions are installed in a HP 9000 K-Class System,
the multiplexer status LED will come on and stay on, incorrectly indicating
a faulty card. While the Processor Dependent Code (PDC) can recognize
the card is in the correct slot, the card is non-functional.

This situation is caused because the bus timing in HP 9000 K-Class
systems at powerup is different from previous systems (the reset
sequence lasts longer).

All J2092A, J2093A and J2094A sixteen channel multiplexers shipped since
July 1994 and J2096A 32-channel multiplexers shipped since October 1993 are
of this later revision, as are all exchange cards currently shipped by
repair centers.

However, when replacing a failed J2092A, J2093A, J2094A or J2096A in an
HP 9000 K-Class System, double-check to ensure the exchange card is
revision 3426 or greater for 16 channel multiplexers and 3342 or greater
for 32 channel multiplexers.

If you have older revisions or current HP 9000 E, F, G, H or
I-Class systems, these parts can be safely used in those systems.

Jeff,

I saw the document, but it show k400 and the machine is k460. Can I consider the document valid for k460 too?

Re: Description of SAM and ioscan

Yes - I'd say it was.
Check the date code on that card - you'll have to remove it to do so. I have no idea where that code would be on the card though.
If it's earlier than 3246, then I suspect you'll have to talk to HP about an upgrade.
They *may* be willing to exchange it for nothing - but don't take that to the bank.
It sure sounds like the card is not initializing properly now.

Re: Description of SAM and ioscan

Elizangela,

I found a great doc on docs.hp.com. It talks about drivers for all types of cards including yours... check the date as suggested. IF it is older you are in trouble.

Here is the pdf and html...

Re: Description of SAM and ioscan

Hi Todd and Jeff,

Thank's very much for your information.
