Desktop locks up!
I have several HP 785/C3600 systems running 11i and their primary purposes are controllers for highspeed test equipment. There is a lot of GPIB and Fiber optic I/O going on while running. I have noticed that each of them from time to time both while running the equipment and also idle will lock up to the point where the cursor is locked and the mouse & keyboard are frozen you can do nothing but wait. Most of the time it only takes between 10 ???30 seconds and they respond back as if nothing was wrong. The strange thing is I have a system that I have set up and have been working on for several weeks that is not yet on the network and it does not share this problem and it was built by way of an ignite image from one of the machine that is having the problem.. I am not sure if it is CDE and/or resources restrictions that may be causing this disruption. Are there any logs that may be written too during this interruption? Any suggestions?
Keep it Simple!~

Re: Desktop locks up!
if you move the mouse around whilst the hang occurs is it's movement stored and traced when things return back to normal ?
What patch levels are you running at :
cde base = PHSS_27428
cde apps = PHSS_26493
Xserver = PHSS_26622
Graphics = PHKL_26833
since systems affected are on the network can you rlogin, ping
run top etc or even glance ?
what graphics card ? -> graphinfo output would be useful ...
Logs : woth looking in /var/dt/Xerrors, syslog.log & $HOME/.dt/error.log but this sounds unusual

Re: Desktop locks up!
Scott,
Search around and see if you've got any core files. A core dump in process will completely take over the machine until it finishes dumping.
