/dev/dsk/chXtXdX?

My disk device files for disks on an Hitachi array are showing up as /dev/dsk/ch6t3d2. Anyone know why the 'h' is in there? Is it for Hitachi? :^)

Thanks.

Re: /dev/dsk/chXtXdX?

Do an ls -l /dev/dsk, I want to see the major/minor device tuples.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: /dev/dsk/chXtXdX?

Do you have any kind of special software for the Hitachi array installed? Maybe something similar to EMC PowerPath?

Re: /dev/dsk/chXtXdX?

I've never used one of these arrays on an HP-UX box but the first thing I see is block major device 2 for these "ch" whereas "31" is typical. Do an lsdev and find out what device driver is associated with block major 2.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: /dev/dsk/chXtXdX?

Hi Les,

We have an HDS 9980 connected to an HP server environment and all the disk devices do not have the "h" in the device file name & block device number of 31.

Thanks in advance!

Re: /dev/dsk/chXtXdX?

Hi les,

Did you install any aditional driver for the disk array?
The major number of the hitachi disks are showing 2.Instead of 31.
check the driver drivers used.
