Hi Ramana,

It seems lilke the lvol4 is monted as /tmp.Please check with "bdf" command.
/tmp can be 100% fully occupied.

Please clear up some unwanted files and make some freespace available.

Hope this solves the problem.

Hi,

# cd /tmp
# bdf .
# du -kxa /tmp |sort -rn |more
this will list the largest files/directories

If you are not sure what to remove/clear, please post the output of above commands.

Ramana,

please print #bdf output and paste here to see what mount point on /dev/vg00/lvol4

usually i will use

#find / -size +2000 > /tmp/report.out

please attached /tmp/report.out to us. We will see which files can be removed.

Good luck

Shalom,

/tmp is an all purpose readable by all filesystem used for temporary files. Many applications don't clean up their files, causing this filesystem to fill up.

Sometimes users leave files laying around as well.

Simply put, use the tools to find larger files and erase them.

You may also want to write a cron job that periodically removes files more than a week old from the /tmp filesystem.

Hi Ramana,

I'm wondering /tmp/SEC, what is the use for ? This SEC directory shouldn't in /tmp ?

May be you should move /tmp/SEC to other directory.

Re: /dev/vg00/lvol4 file system full (1 block extent) how to solve this pls HELP ME sir....

Without knowing what /tmp/SEC is being used for it's nearly impossible for anyone here to give a good solution.
The directory /tmp/SEC is filling up the most of your /tmp but without the proper information I would never ever just go in there and start deleting files.
So it's very important to find out why /tmp/SEC is there and what it's doing exactly.

You can probably delete /tmp/patches and maybe /tmp/glanceinst but that might be only a temporary solution.

Another solution would be to enlarge the logical volume if you have free space left on the disk(s).
Depending on the fact if you have OnlineJFS you can do that on the running system and otherwise you need to schedule a reboot.

Besides that I would start creating some kind of filesystem history asap so in the near future you will be able to see how fast your logical volumes are growing each and every day so next time you can take appropriate actions before one of your filesystems is totally filled up.

One thing you can do is move /tmp/SEC to a file system with more space and put a symlink from there to /tmp/SEC.

The only issue might be this wouldn't be mounted in single user mode?

Note your first reply has errors about /tmp/SEC, what does /usr/sec/commands/stream do?

In the environment developed, supplied, and supported by Southeastern Data Cooperative, Inc. http://www.sedata.com aka "SEDC", the directory /tmp/SEDC is used behind-the-scenes and is maintained by a nightly job that runs every day at 1AM local time. It emulates the "job/session temporary" directories provided to each interaction session and background job on an HP3000 running MPE/iX.

The script /usr/sedc/commands/stream is an HP-UX emulation of the MPE command "STREAM" for submitting batch jobs to the system. This script is part of an interlocking suite of shell scripts, utilities and login processses that emulates a big chunk of the HP3000 OS known as MPE/iX on an HP9000 running HP-UX 11vi aka 11.11.

Given this thread, and several others opened by Ramana, it's obvious that the intellecutal property of a small, not-for-profit, customer-owned company has been obtained and is being used by a company in India. What's odd is that the IP in question is a suite of applications, and the foundation environment they run on, that provide USAn rural electric membership cooperatives and small municipal utilities with internal accounting and customer billing functions.

Why a company in India would need software that "runs the business" for an electric coop in, say, Socorro, NM, is beyond me.
