device already recorded in lvmtab
i ve Some trouble with my D250 running 10.2.
A disk has gone down, i move it back from the system and replace it with a new one in an a3311a tower.
when i tried to make a new vg sam said the a device is already recorded in lvmtab with the same scsi adress.
does i have to vgscan the system ?
is there a risk ?
do i have to backup my lvmtab before ?
read you soon (i hope)
bye. South France.

Re: device already recorded in lvmtab
rename /etc/lvmtab
vgscan -a
then check with 'strings /etc/lvmtab' if it looks more or less OK; a few rubbisch characters should be ignored, but you should see all your Volume Groups.
good luck,
Thierry

Re: device already recorded in lvmtab
If you are not using pv links (ie no disk arrays or alternate links in your pvs)
vgscan is fine, but,
vgcfgrestore for the pv should work also.
(once the disk size didn't change)
strings /etc/lvmtab.back
and compare with /etc/lvmtab recreated after the vgscan.

Re: device already recorded in lvmtab
How did you remove the disk from the system?
What commands?

Re: device already recorded in lvmtab
as someone said. i have renamed lmvtab, and vgscaned the system.
it worked fine, and have erased all obsolescent entries i had in that file.
at last one more question :
what about files under /etc/lvmconf ?
can i rm it ? (the one that aren't usefull any more ! of course "-) ?).

Re: device already recorded in lvmtab
If you mess up and accidently delete the wrong one, use vgcfgbackup to recreate them.
This is normally done automatically after lvcreate, vgcreate and most other vg modification commands.
The files are left after a vgexport.. if you ever happen to do one.

Bill
