DIagnostic and Support Tools Download

Hi,

Can anyone please tell me where I can download the March 2006 Support Tools for HP-UX 11.11 and 11.23, I've found the latest one (June 2006) here

http://h20293.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=B6191AAE

But can't seem to locate older versions, I'm hoping they are still available.

Many thanks, Steve.

Re: DIagnostic and Support Tools Download

Shalom Steven,

HP pulls older versions quickly.

You can look at your application cd's or order them if you have a software contract and have not ordered.

You an open a response center call and requiest older version access.

Or you can go with the June 06 tools. Easiest thing to do in this case is go June 2006. Its a low risk decision.

Re: DIagnostic and Support Tools Download

SEP,

Thanks very much for the advice.

Unfortunately HP have recommended the March 06 version in relation to a specific problem so the June 2006 version isn't really an option, although I've installed this on numerous other servers. I'm just searching through the CD's any idea where the software is on the 11i version2 CDs?

Cheerio, Steve.

Re: DIagnostic and Support Tools Download

Hi Steve,
I can't think of a reason why installing the June version would not work if you've been recommended the March version. The June release should have all fixes and features of the March release.

Can you ask HP support to explain what problems you might have with the June release? I'd be very surprised if there were any.

Re: DIagnostic and Support Tools Download

Oh, and another point I thought of just as I hit 'send' :-)

There was no March 2006 release for 11.11, the previous release was September 2005; March 2006 was 11.23 only. See the table of versions at http://www.docs.hp.com/en/diag/stm/stm_upd.htm#table

If you have the CD subscription, you should have the older OnlineDiags versions on that, but as I said before, I can't think of any problems that installing the June release would cause.

Re: DIagnostic and Support Tools Download

Andrew,

Thanks for the info. I will certainly ask HP why the current version isn't good enough, from what I can tell it has something to do with patching as no patches have been released for June2006 yet, whereas the March version they have asked me to install a patch with as well.

Regards, Steven.

Re: DIagnostic and Support Tools Download

Hi Steven,
The reason that no patch has been produced for the June version is that it incorporates all the important fixes in the patch for the March one already. If HP Support tell you different, send them to me :-) Seriously, though, if that's the reason they give, ask them what specific fix is missing from the June release, as I'd really like to know too.

Re: DIagnostic and Support Tools Download

From experience... HP has had issues with newer versions of OnlineDiags due to their lack of compatibility with legacy systems. When this incompatibility is realized, usually after its release, they fix the issues in the next version.

This was the case when OnlineDiags was created for a SuperDome. It would show cell architecture in a system that didn't have it (like an N4000).
If at first you don't succeed, read the man page.

Re: DIagnostic and Support Tools Download

Hi Josiah,
The point you raise is a valid one, but I think mainly consigned to the past. I suspect your experience is from some time ago.

Also, it's a slightly different issue; there's a difference between a fix being available in a patch for an earlier release and not being included in the next one (which also shouldn't be happening now), and a change to support new hardware which causes problems on legacy hardware. I believe HP is working hard to make sure neither situation happens.
