Dial-Up Networking between Linux and HP/UX-11

Dial-Up Networking between Linux and HP/UX-11

Hello everybody,

I would like to logon with my Linux-PC (Redhat 6.0) onto the HP System using a modem connection. This does not seem to work at all. I tried it also on a Windows machine with Reflection and there it works.

When I use PPP I hear that the HP machine responds but I cannot ping to it. (Network unreachable). Telnet does not work of course. Can somebody give some advise?

Thanks,

Hi,

Defaulty the ppp is not enabled in Hp-ux,

Please check by swlist -l product,

PPP is installed and configured.

Thanks

Indeed PPP is not installed on HP.

But anyway...
How does it come that I can connect with Reflection on WinNT? Perhaps I should use another way to connect to the HP. (I already tried SLIP too, but without success)

Try minicom. It is a plain VT100 emulator with no TCP/IP support. If the machine you are calling does not provide TCP/IP over the modem line (such as PPP or SLIP) then you shouldn't run a network client either.

Sounds like when you dial in from your Win/Reflections box, it establishes an asynchronous connection and your Linux box is trying PPP?

If this is the case, I would highly recommend installing PPP if you are on HP-UX 11.0. It works great and is simple to install and get working. You can then use the Windows dialer to connect to your HP box (just like you would to an ISP) and run as many sessions of Reflections (telnet) as you like!
