Re: differance between HFS and Vxfs
Hi Siva,
Difference between HFS and VxFS:
HFS is the older one. On PA-RISC architecture the /stand partition must be HFS, the rest can be VxFS. VxFS has more features: it allows large files (more than 2 GB) and on-line resizing (if OnlineJFS package is installed).

Re: differance between HFS and Vxfs
Hi Siva,
One most important advantage of VXFS on HFS is..
The "Recovery time" upon crash.
The vxfs uses the "Extent Log" to log all the activity related to updating the Meta data structures of the FS before really commiting the cahnge to the FS. Hence if the OS crashed, before actual commitment had to be done, after rebooting the fsck has to perform only the "extent Log replay" that would take only fixed amount of minimal time to get the FS to consistent state, this is irrespective of the Size of FS. That is the recovery time is only the time consumed to replay the Intent Log.
Where as in HFS , it will have to scan the entire FS to make it consistent. There by the recovery time is made dependent on the size of the FS. Bigger the size, more the time.
There are lot more advantages of VXFS over HFS.. but the above point mentioned, I consider is one of the prime contender...

Senthil Kumar .A
P.S : Wait for others to repond for further point adders...
