Difference between Tachyon XL2 and FC/GigE Combo Adapter

Is there any difference in the fibre requirements between the Tachyon XL2 and FC/GigE Combo Adapter HBA cards?

We have an RX8620 running 11.23 with 1x Tachyon and 2x FC/GigE combo cards (Model A9784-60002).

When plugging the fibre into the Tachyon card, we get connectivity and all is ok. If we then take that very same fibre out and plug it into either of the combo cards, we dont get any link. I doubt very much that BOTH combo cards are faulty. So my question therefore is...
"Is there any difference, requirement wise, between them?"
ie single or multi mode... fibre micron width etc.
Any help would be much appreciated...
Thankyou.

Did you read the documentation that came with the FC cards? Could be a driver that needs to be installed or turned on. Could be a patch is required. The release notes would be a good place to start.

Andrew,

Well those cards certainly have different drives. The Tachyon card is (I think) an A6795A card which uses the td driver which comes in the software bundle FibrChanl-00, whils A9784A combo card uses the fcd driver which comes in software bundle FibrChanl-01.

Do you have that driver installed?

Do you have the *latest* drivers installed? See here:

Re: Difference between Tachyon XL2 and FC/GigE Combo Adapter

Hi guys... thanks for your responses, but we found the error of our ways. A communication breakdown between the people doing the physical patching of the box and what we could see from an HP-UX perspective. The box is an rx8600 and only chassis 0 was activated. The cards that we thought were not working were not actually patched. Instead, there were cards installed into Chassis 1 which had been patched, and hence not visible to HP-UX. We have since activated new CPU's memory and Cell Boards using iCAP etc, and now the cards are visible also.
