We are in the process of migrating our HP-UX Servers. The responsible team has given us
Itanium processors instead of PA-RISC processors (which was being used earlier).
Could that create any issue in future or what exactly is the differnce in both of these?
Thank you.

SolutionPA-RISC processors have been replaced by new generation Itanium-64 processors. PA_RISC was developed by HP and it is not under any further research.
Where as, Itanium is new generation 64 Bit processor which was originally developed by HP, alter acquired by Intel.
Migrating from PA to IA-64 won;t support any issues.

Itanium is CISC based, this will be cheaper. You can install few more OS on ot this.

I guess the people who have spared some time to provide you replies deserve some points according to how useful they were to you. Please do the needful.

Re: Difference in Type of Processors
Anyway...
Itanium processors were jointly developed by HP and Intel, and production is carried out by Intel.
The processor architecture is different for the two families and so is the executable code - different binaries exist for PA-RISC and IA-64, so if you plan migrating from PA to IA you need to consider installing, patching and testing the IA-64 environment before migrating your production data...
So I would not say there is no issue, even if the migration is not a difficult one.
Best regards, Alessandro Bocchino
