Differencies between Glance and Top Load Levels (HP-UX 11i)

Hi,

Does some of you know should there be any differencies between Glance and Top output of Load levels? Are they always the same in both of them? I mean current load level and averages (1/5/15min)?

Is there some formula for defining them and does Glance takes average from bigger amount of processes than Top does?

Thanks,
Pauli

Sometimes there are differncies.

First of all, the polling time are different.

Second, the calculations of the values are a bit different. There are dozens of counters in the kernel for different metrics, so top and glance may use different counters for the same metrics.

Third, definitions fo the metrics may differ. For example, I saw this issue in Glance and PRM, the calculations of the shared memory was totaly different and it took me some time to understand why.

So if you want to monitor you system, stick to one of them and not both at the same time.
