Different results for echo $PATH on 2 HP-UX11.11 servers
L.S.,
upon issuing an "echo $PATH" on 2 identical HP-UX11.11 servers, I get different results.
The contents of /etc/profile is identical.
What can be the cause ?
Are there other files, besides /etc/profile that add something to $PATH and are server specific ?
Any suggestions are appreciated !!
Regards,
Jaap Hartog

Re: Different results for echo $PATH on 2 HP-UX11.11 servers
It could be a personal .profile, .kshrc or a difference in /etc/PATH itself.

Look at the /etc/PATH file.
Are the same?

Re: Different results for echo $PATH on 2 HP-UX11.11 servers
There were differences between the /etc/PATH-files.
They are identical now.
I must admit that alterations had been made in the past to /etc/profile.
These changes have been neutralized, both /etc/profiles are identical.
So on both machines /etc/PATH and /etc/profile are identical.
At least the desired entry can be found in $PATH now, so applications can be used.(this was the reason for me to investigate this matter)
Still I get different results when issueing echo $PATH.
One result counts 475 char's, the other 663.
@Pete Randall: For as far as I know, the personal .profile and .kshrc in the user's are used/read upon logging on on either of the 2 machines. It seems like something else is read as well, causing the extra almost 200 chars.
