disabling DHCP

hi all..while installing 10.2 i told yes to networking enable.the ip was taken from DHCP server .but CDE login doesnt come .when i disconnect the cable the login comes.when i go for sam>networking > NICards , i see it as not configured.if i configure a static IP it is disabling DHCP as well as NICard.i edited netconf file and found DHCP[0]=0.what could be the problem?

Re: disabling DHCP

You are right to disable DHCP in the /etc/rc.config.d/netconf file.

After you config the static IP address ( /etc/rc.config.d/netconf ) , you should add this ip address to /etc/hosts so that CDE can start .

Re: disabling DHCP

For CDE problem first place to check is /var/dt/Xerrors

this case you may have problem with
1. cannot ping IP of your self
2. cannot resolved hostname.

Re: disabling DHCP

Hi,
make sure DHCP_ENABLE flag set to 0 in /etc/rc.config.d/netconf. remove the hostname from netconf file.
# cd /sbin/init.d
#./nettl stop
#./net stop
#./net.init stop
#./net.init start
#./net start
#./nettl start
#set_parms initial
when asked for dhcp enable answer no and continue with static ip.
