I am using HP-UX 11.00 U on a 9000 system.
I want all NFS services disabled so I edited the /etc/rc.config.d/nfsconf file and set these variables to "0"
NFS_SERVER=0 and NFS_CLIENT =0
No luck as nfs.core still wants to run and when it runs it core dumps.
So I moved /sbin/rc2.d/S400nfs.core to /tmp/S400nfs.core so nfs.core does not run.
Well I don't get the core dump anymore, but now I cannot telnet to the system. When I try to telnet to the host from the PC it just times out.
I logged on using the console (as telnet does not work) and checked if inetd was running. It was running.
So I moved the S400nfs.core file back and rebooted. I got the usual core dump but can telnet.
When I do a "file core" I get:
core: core file from 'nfskd' - received SIGSYS
which indicates that nfskd is still attempting to run.
I need telnet running yet don't want nfs running as its slows too many things down.
I have attached the core file just incase someone out there can interpret it for me.
Has anyone got any suggestions. It would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
JUP.

Re: disabling nfs.core stops telnet working
I'm posting this thread as a poster child for resolution of this issue.
Another less useful note: I do not belive that nfs.core needs to be running for telnet to work.
Though a mess up in networking can cause all networking to fail, it should be possible to not run NFS and have telnet work.
